Days go by...

So, it's been a little bit since I posted last and quite a bit has happened since.

Where to begin?

Well, for starters, I was involved in a rather heated debate recently. What's really interesting about this debate is how one sided it ended up becoming. As people were putting in their thoughts and opinions, it became even more one sided. Eventually, as one person put it, it seemed like it got down to just one man rowing the boat. Thankfully, it seems that I was with the majority on this debate. What's really interesting is that alot of people, including myself, let loose some bottled up feelings that have been collecting for several years now. I always assumed things would come to a head one day ... well it finally happened.

Now I can move forward.

I found out some things this past week that enforced my beliefs that I have a strong group of friends and people who will support me. Not that I ever had any doubts about this, these are all fantastic people who I think the world of, but it's nice to know when the chips are down who will back you up. I've gotten tons of support from every direction I've turned, and I know if I ever needed something, these people would be there in a heartbeat.

Thanks guys.

In other news, Aunt Carolyn had surgury last week on her back. Apparently some bone had grown around her spine and began to pinch the nerves in her back. She was immobile and in great pain the last I saw her before the operation, and since she is doing so much better. There's only a couple of people in this world that mean so much to me, and Aunt Carolyn is one of those people. Seeing her in such pain hurt me, but I tried to not let it show. I guess that's what they call being strong for someone else ... but I think people do it more for themselves so that they won't break down or something in front of the person they care about. Regardless, she's doing better now and is moving 100% better than she was just two weeks ago.

That makes me happy. :)

I'm looking into getting a Mac. I don't want anything special, I just want something that will allow me to work with Panther and possibly Tiger when it's released next year. I've been working really close with the art department at work recently, and I've been making great strides. The only downside to me not having a Mac is that I can't possibly support our graphics people from home, as I have nothing in front of me to use as a guide. Sure, I can try to go from memory, but when you deal with at least 5 different operating systems on any given day, you tend to forget where certain things are from time to time. In a pinch, this just isn't a very effecient way to do things.

I'm working with the local Mac shop, called Mactown, to see if I can get my hands on something used. My goal is to get something like a G4 400 or 450, which I can put some more RAM into and then put Panther on it. I would also probably purchase a KVM to go with it so I can switch between the Mac and the PC at will. Oh well, I'm sure it'll happen one day.

I finally eliminated my wireless networking issues that have been pissing me off for so long. I've done quite a bit of stuff recently to troubleshoot my home network, most to no avail. I've changed channels on the router, changed network cables, upgraded firmware, purchased new network cards, and so on and so forth. The other day, I was in the configuration settings of my router and went to the page where it shows the connection statistics. On that page, it would update every 5 seconds (by default) and show you what connections you had and how much data was being transfered to and from your network. I noticed that my WAN connection would drop every once in a while, so I set the page to refresh every second. Sure enough, my WAN connection was dropping repeatedly for no reason.

So I went to CompUSA and purchased a new cable modem, a Motorola Surfboard to be exact. I've had fantastic luck with these modems in the past, as have other people, and I knew that it was money well spent. I brought the modem home, hooked it up, called Insight to give them the new Mac address, reset the modem and the router, and restarted my computer. I went back to the connection statistic page and sure enough, no more drops. By replacing the modem, I'm back up to speed where I used to be when I first moved back to Louisville. I forgot how sweet it was to have fast broadband.

Last, but not least, Amanda got a settlement off of the car accident she was in two years ago. Good thing this money came in when it did, because we were in dire straights for a short period there. Because of this settlement, we're back on top and doing quite well once again. Now that things have straightened back out, we're making some major changes to the way we do finances, and we're both in agreement on how it should be done.

Since Amanda's going back to school, she is also looking for a part time job. She interviewed for the part time receptionist job at WHAS, which the interview seemed to go quite well. I'm hoping that she'll get the job so that I can see her a little bit more throughout the day, plus she'll be able to bring in a bit of cash to help with the bills. Isn't she great?

Later!
